Welcome to Kaltukatjara – Docker River

Kaltukatjara is the original Aboriginal name for this area 670km west south west of Alice Springs, near the West Australian border, was Kaltukatjara and it is still used locally today.  The name of Docker River owes its name to an Ernest Giles expedition in 1872.

Today the community of Kaltukatjara has a population of approximately 300 residents living in the western end of the Iyarrka Ward of the MacDonnell Regional Council.

Kaltukatjara Creative Arts undertake creative design, sewing and seamstress skills and will create a small self-managed community garden. We will be publishing a recipe book based on healthy eating printed in both English and Ngaatjatjarra. Dreamtime Solutions have been engaged to deliver an eight-week project that will aide our participants with key skills to finish these projects.

Docker River Community Development and Work Skills activity is based around community infrastructure and skilling participants to take up employment opportunities with council and contractors. Our crew will be maintaining the cemetery in the community and working alongside McDonnell Regional Council. The council has funding to erect several shade structures on site at the cemetery with RN Employment Services assistance.
